I read a story online where Steve Martin is going to be appearing on the stage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville in May. Although he is mostly known as a stand up comic and movie actor, Steve will be promoting his new Bluegrass album he recorded, The Crow. I almost forgot how talented Steve was at playing the banjo. In his early stuff in the 70s, a big part of Steve’s act was playing the banjo and singing A Ramblin Man and other songs. I even still have that album on vinyl from about 1975… It probably would be a good show to go see. He’s really talented with the banjo. I’d like to hear his bluegrass music. Has anyone heard it?
Here are a couple of videos of Steve playing one from the 70s on the Muppet Show and one more recent with Earl Scruggs. Enjoy!
Thanks for posting that all-star jam. You take talent like that and it rises above the most overdone material, and it shines.
I actually saw Steve Martin play the Exit-In, in Nashville, back about a gazillion years ago. Didn’t quite know what to make of him, as I remember.
Thanks. A comedian with a banjo in the 70s was pretty rare in itself. Steve can really play – and very well. I’d love to go see him.
